A well known Chinese herb, Lycium Berry- AKA Gou Qi Zi, has been known to have amazing curative effects such strengthening eye sight and enhancing male and female fertility, but it has now been documented to slow the aging process. Recently a study from the University of Hong Kong provided strong clinical evidence that the polysaccharides found in Gou Qi Zi have neuroprotective properties. These neuroprotective properties attenuate stress kinases and pro-apoptotic signaling pathway and clinically protected retinal cells from beta-amyloid peptide toxicity and from ganglion cell infection. Conclusion, the ancient physicians in China were correct in their assumption that this herb was a strong tonic capable of slowing the degenerative processes.
